Electronic Typewriter
EM-1 (1980)

In Brother’s overseas business operations, which began with the export of sewing machines, electronic typewriters and other information processing equipment became the leading products in the 1980s. The precursor to these products was the “EM-1”, which was launched in 1980 as Brother’s first electronic typewriter with a linear pulse motor. Brother served as an official supplier of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics Games and implemented other branding strategies to become known as a manufacturer of information processing products in the European and US markets.
